A driver involved in a fatal DUI hit-and-run that resulted in the death of an Ole Miss student and injuries to another has been released from prison nine years ahead of schedule for “good behavior.”
Seth Garron Rokitka, 30, will be released after a judge revised his 10-year sentence following the deadly 2022 crash in Oxford, Mississippi, which claimed the life of 21-year-old Walker Fielder, according to the Oxford Eagle.
Rokitka, who received his sentence less than a year ago, had requested a review of his punishment as he had been in custody since his late 2022 arrest.
The judge highlighted in the amended order that Rokitka was deemed “worthy of reconsideration” due to his rehabilitation, treatment, and conduct during his incarceration.
Under the new terms, Rokitka must maintain a clean record, serve five years of probation, and complete 50 years of community service.
The sentence reduction follows Rokitka’s admission of driving into two Ole Miss students, killing Fielder and injuring 20-year-old Blanche Williamson, in the early hours of October 16, 2022, in downtown Oxford.
Fielder was declared dead at the scene.
The driver initially fled the scene but surrendered the following day.
As part of a plea agreement, Rokitka admitted to leaving the scene of an accident causing death and aggravated DUI.
