Seiko is celebrating its 145th anniversary with a keen focus on its legacy. The initial series of limited edition watches featured warm gold accents. From July 2026, the second series will highlight Seiko Blue, a color that has been central to the brand’s identity since the 1960s. This series includes six new releases, with the King Seiko Vanac HKF004 standing out as a limited edition that revisits the brand’s most experimental period with compelling results.
The Vanac’s silver-white and blue color scheme harks back to the Seiko Blue theme introduced in the 1960s, which has since become a hallmark of Japanese watchmaking. This design doesn’t just represent corporate branding; it embodies the essence of the timepiece.
Why the Vanac Matters
Launched in the early 1970s, the original Vanac collection was a bold departure from the classical designs of King Seiko. Featuring angular cases, vivid dial colors, and geometric styles, it reflected a radical shift in Japanese watchmaking that captured the spirit of urban Tokyo. Unlike its conservative counterparts, the Vanac was daring and modern.
The Vanac name rejoined the King Seiko lineup in 2025, quickly expanding to include nine steel and titanium models that embody the 1970s aesthetic. The HKF004 is the first limited edition in this revival, underscoring Seiko’s recognition of the Vanac’s significance in marking an anniversary milestone.

The King Seiko Vanac HKF004 Dial and Case

The dial features a white central disc with a horizontal gadroon pattern, encircled by a blue hour scale in the same shade as other 145th anniversary models. A silver rim outlines the hour scale, and the V motif, central to the Vanac’s identity, is present on both the dial and seconds hand. Lumibrite-coated indices and hands ensure visibility in low light, with a framed date window at 3 o’clock.
The stainless steel case measures 41mm in diameter, 14.3mm in height, and 45mm lug-to-lug, with water resistance up to 10 bar (100 meters). The case’s bezel-less design features angular lines and sharp bevels, characteristic of the Vanac style. The watch is paired with a black rubber strap and a sapphire crystal protecting the dial. The sapphire exhibition caseback reveals the movement.
What Powers the King Seiko Vanac 145th Anniversary Edition

The watch is powered by the Caliber 8L45, an advanced automatic movement based on the Grand Seiko 9S65. It offers a 72-hour power reserve and maintains an accuracy of -5 to +10 seconds per day. The rotor and plate feature striped finishing, and the movement, with 35 jewels, operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour. It supports automatic and manual winding, with hacking seconds for precise time setting, providing value for its limited edition premium.
Availability and Pricing
Out of the 800 pieces manufactured, 300 are designated for Japan, while the other 500 will be available through Seiko boutiques and authorized retailers worldwide. Each watch is individually numbered, with a US retail price of $3,300 and €3,400 in Europe. Available starting July 2026, the watch includes a 36-month manufacturer’s warranty. Given its limited production, anniversary significance, and the Vanac’s growing collector appeal, high interest is anticipated before the release. More details can be found at seikowatches.com.
