KL Rahul of Delhi Capitals made history in the Indian Premier League (IPL) by becoming the fastest Indian player to hit 200 sixes. This remarkable feat was achieved during a match against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In just 129 innings, Rahul reached the milestone, surpassing Sanju Samson’s previous record of 159 innings. Chris Gayle still holds the overall record for the fastest to reach 200 sixes, achieving it in just 69 innings.
The momentous occasion occurred in the third over of the Capitals’ innings when Mohammed Siraj of Gujarat Titans bowled a full-length delivery that Rahul effortlessly dispatched over long-on for a massive six. The 33-year-old went on to score 28 runs off just 14 balls, including four boundaries and a six.
In the same match, Gujarat Titans won the toss and chose to bowl first against Delhi Capitals. The visitors got off to a flying start with Abishek Porel taking on Mohammed Siraj in the opening over, hitting two fours and a six. However, Porel’s innings was short-lived as he fell in the second over to Arshad Khan after hitting a full toss straight to mid-on.
Despite the early wicket, Delhi Capitals continued their aggressive approach with KL Rahul and Karun Nair adding 17 runs off Siraj’s second over. However, Prasidh Krishna dismissed Rahul for 28 runs off 14 deliveries, ending the 35-run partnership. At the end of the powerplay, Delhi Capitals were 73/2 with Nair on 19 and Axar Patel on four.
