According to Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, the man had reportedly taken over $1000 worth of merchandise from Briscoes and Spotlight. Additionally, he helped himself to hand warmers, lighter fluids, ponchos, and gas torches from the Hunting and Fishing New Zealand store. Earlier in the week, he allegedly stole $769 worth of cosmetics from Chemist Warehouse at the Meridian Mall.
Upon his arrest, the man was found carrying a knife, leading to charges of multiple counts of shoplifting and possession of an offensive weapon. He is scheduled to appear in Dunedin District Court at a later date.
