Robbery and Carjacking Team Strikes in Englewood and Bridgeport
Chicago police have reported a string of robberies and carjackings carried out by a team armed with a knife, targeting multiple victims including a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier in the neighborhoods of Englewood and Bridgeport.
The crime spree began around 11:20 a.m. in the 6700 block of South Throop, where a victim parked near Ogden Park was approached by two men, one brandishing a knife. The victim fled from his vehicle, a tan Honda Civic, which was then stolen by the perpetrators.
Shortly after 2 p.m., the team targeted a mail carrier in the 6900 block of South Justine. Three robbers in a tan car, possibly the stolen Honda Civic, displayed a knife and made off with the mail carrier’s belongings.
At approximately 4 p.m., a red Subaru Forester was carjacked in the 900 block of West 35th Street by three men armed with a large knife. The assailants forced the driver out and drove away in the stolen vehicle.
Another robbery took place at 6:48 p.m. in the 5400 block of South Peoria, where three men armed with a butcher knife targeted a victim.
Finally, just before 7 p.m., a black Chevy Tahoe was carjacked at knifepoint in the 5500 block of South Wells. Witnesses reported seeing the suspects arrive in a beige or tan Honda Civic. The stolen Tahoe was later found abandoned near Peoria and 68th Street.
The suspects, described as Black males wearing hoodies and ski masks, were also accompanied by a Black female in one of the incidents. Descriptions of the individuals include one robber being 6’3″ to 6’4″ tall and around 200 pounds, often seen with the knife, and another being 5’7″ to 5’8″ tall and heavyset.
