Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is facing calls to resign after two fatal Minneapolis shootings involving federal immigration agents. Despite the growing pressure, Noem emphasized that she is just doing her job.
The incidents in question involved the fatal shootings of two American anti-ICE protesters by federal agents in Minneapolis, leading to bipartisan outcry.
During an interview on âHannity,â Noem stated, âThese radicals are attacking me, but Iâm just doing my job. Iâm following the law, enforcing the laws, like President Trump promised that he would do to keep people safe in this country. Weâre going to continue to go after these criminals, weâre going to remove them before they have the chance to murder more Americans.â
Noem initially rushed to defend Border Patrol agents when Alex Pretti was shot, claiming that he confronted the agents with a handgun. However, videos from the scene showed Pretti holding only his phone.
It was later revealed that an errant round from Prettiâs pistol, after it was taken from him, may have prompted Border Patrol agents to open fire, resulting in his death.
Noem faced criticism for her quick defense of the agents and labeling Pretti as a domestic terrorist. The White House has defended her, but tensions continue to rise, leading to the appointment of “border czar” Tom Homan in Minnesota.
Both fatal shootings in Minnesota have sparked protests and calls for ICE to be removed from the state to quell the chaos. Noem’s future in the administration remains uncertain as the situation unfolds.
