“Welcome to the starquarters, where we embody our true essence as stars radiating light and creativity.” JJ Martin enthusiastically shared this vision from her stunning new office in Milan, creatively dubbed the “galactic deck.” This sunroom, featuring panoramic views of the city, is adorned with a gong sprinkled with meteorite fragments and a dedicated crystal altar. This unique environment not only serves as a workspace for her brand, La DoubleJ, but also as a wellness sanctuary, offering yoga, meditation, and sound healing sessions for employees and local residents.
JJ Martin stands out among Milan’s designer-founders, not only for her innovative designs but also for her commitment to boosting the “vibration” of her brand. Nearly a decade after launching La DoubleJ, her vision has expanded to include prints exclusively crafted by her in-house team. The Spring 2026 collection showcases vibrant designs, all developed internally, moving away from her initial reliance on the famed Mantero silk archive that she once utilized.
The La DoubleJ team has expanded significantly, now comprising 100 dedicated professionals. Looking ahead, exciting plans include a new townhouse slated to open in New York City in early 2026. This space will feature its own version of the “galactic deck” and promise energy healing sessions, ready to elevate the energy of the Upper East Side.
The inspiration for the upcoming collection stems from a transformative spiritual journey in Turkey, where Martin co-hosted a retreat. A pivotal experience was witnessing a whirling dervish ceremony, characterized by its meditative spinning. “The moment I returned, I was flooded with ideas, and that’s when the concept for the circle skirt emerged,” Martin explained. The upcoming lineup will feature an impressive 22 unique circle skirts, each crafted from various fabrics and adorned with delightful patterns, offering an array of energetic designs.
During the presentation, Martin herself wore tailored pants, which is a rarity for her. She introduced pieces catering to a more minimalist aesthetic, such as a tailored red blazer with striking gold buttons, vibrant pink flat-front trousers, and an extensive collection of white shirts—almost rivals to the myriad of circle skirts. The brand’s philosophy could be summed up as “more, not less.” La DoubleJ embraces more color, more prints, more mysticism, and above all, more joy. Before departing, I felt compelled to place my left hand—“the receiving hand”—on a labradorite stone from the crystal altar, believed to facilitate “upper chakra activation.” It’s impossible to leave a La DoubleJ presentation without feeling uplifted and inspired.
