A daring thief was caught on surveillance video breaking into a Los Angeles jewelry store from the roof and stealing over $100,000 worth of gems in less than 10 minutes. The incident took place at Nafiseh Jeweler on Ventura Boulevard in Woodland Hills around 2:30 a.m. on a Saturday, as reported by Fox 11.
The video footage showed the thief’s face as he reached into display cases and grabbed valuable jewels, including special coins from the Middle East, before making his escape. The co-owner of the store, Touraj Nezafati, mentioned that the thief seemed familiar with the layout of the store, as he entered from the roof and navigated an 18-foot drop with ease.
This burglary was not the first time the store had been targeted, as it was the second break-in within a span of six months. Nezafati expressed concerns about the safety of his family and the business, especially after experiencing two home-invasion robberies where they were held at gunpoint after being followed home from the store.
Feeling unsafe in the current environment, Nezafati contemplated either relocating the store to Orange County or permanently closing it. Despite taking measures to enhance security, such as fortifying the vault, the family still felt vulnerable to future attacks.
The decision to move or shut down the store was not an easy one for the Nezafati family, who had owned Nafiseh Jeweler for 30 years. The repeated incidents of theft and violence had taken a toll on their sense of security and peace of mind, prompting them to consider drastic measures for their safety and well-being.
