Laverne Cox has opened up about the heartbreaking cancellation of her Amazon Prime Video series, “Clean Slate.” The 52-year-old actress compared the news to taking a “dagger to [her] heart,” revealing that she cried like a baby when she found out a few weeks before the announcement was made.

The series, which Cox created and produced alongside co-stars George Wallace and Dan Ewen, followed the story of 40-year-old Desiree (played by Cox) returning to her small Alabama hometown to come out as a trans woman to her father (Wallace) after a 23-year estrangement. Despite the show’s positive reception, Prime Video decided not to move forward with a second season, leaving Cox devastated.

In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Cox expressed her deep disappointment over the cancellation, stating that she had never felt as attached to a project as she did with “Clean Slate.” The show was loosely based on her own life, making the loss even more personal and devastating.

Despite the disappointment, Cox expressed gratitude for the fans who embraced the show’s inclusive message and expressed their love for the series online. She acknowledged the impact the show had on viewers, noting that many people saw themselves in the characters and found joy in the representation on screen.

While Cox is still processing the cancellation, she hasn’t given up hope of finding “Clean Slate” a new home on another streaming platform or TV network. She plans to “shop it elsewhere” in the hopes of giving the show a second chance.

Looking ahead, Cox shared her desire to take on more challenging projects in her career. The experience of doing a sitcom has inspired her to explore different genres and roles, with a focus on projects that push her artistically. She mentioned upcoming projects, including an animated remake of “Animal Farm” where she voices Snowball and a movie called “Outcome” alongside Keanu Reeves.

As she navigates the next chapter of her career, Cox is excited about the prospect of disappearing into a new role and pushing herself as an actress. She hopes to tackle projects that allow her to showcase her versatility and talent, potentially even producing her own project in the future. Despite the disappointment of “Clean Slate’s” cancellation, Cox remains optimistic about the opportunities that lie ahead in her career. After her departure from E!’s red carpet coverage, actress and host Charissa Cox is embarking on a new chapter in her career. Known for her engaging interviews and charismatic presence, Cox has decided to shift her focus back to her passion for acting.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Cox expressed her excitement about returning to acting and the craft that first drew her to the entertainment industry. She emphasized the importance of immersing herself in the talent and artistry of acting, something she feels has been lacking in recent years.

Cox’s decision to leave E!’s red carpet coverage was met with mixed reactions from fans and colleagues. Many expressed their disappointment at her departure, praising her professionalism and charm on the red carpet. However, Cox remains grateful for the experience and the opportunities it provided her.

In her Instagram post announcing her departure, Cox thanked NBCUniversal, E! Entertainment, and Den of Thieves TV for their support during her three-year tenure. She expressed her pride in the work they had accomplished together and looked forward to new challenges in her career.

As Cox transitions back to acting, fans can expect to see her on the screen once again, showcasing her talent and dedication to her craft. With her infectious energy and natural charisma, Cox is sure to captivate audiences in whatever roles she takes on next.
