NBC has officially renewed both “Law & Order” and “Law & Order: SVU” for the upcoming 2025-2026 broadcast season. This news comes as a relief to fans of the long-running crime procedural series, with “Law & Order” set to return for its impressive 25th season and “SVU” gearing up for its 27th season.
These renewals mark the continuation of the legacy of creator Dick Wolf, as these two shows are the last remaining Wolf Entertainment productions on broadcast television awaiting confirmation of new seasons. NBC has already greenlit additional seasons for all three of the “One Chicago” shows, solidifying their commitment to Wolf’s successful franchise.
In addition to “Law & Order” and “SVU,” Wolf Entertainment also has the spin-off series “Law & Order: Organized Crime” starring Christopher Meloni, which recently premiered its fifth season on the streaming platform Peacock.
The cast of “Law & Order” boasts a talented ensemble including Hugh Dancy, Tony Goldwyn, Odelya Halevi, Mehcad Brooks, Reid Scott, and Maura Tierney. Meanwhile, “SVU” is led by the iconic Mariska Hargitay, along with fan-favorites Ice T and Peter Scanavino. Notably, Juliana Martinez and Octavio Pisano will be departing the show at the end of the current season.
Both shows are produced by Universal Television in association with Wolf Entertainment, with Wolf himself serving as executive producer alongside Rick Eid, Pamela Wechsler, Alex Hall, and Peter Jankowski for “Law & Order,” and David Graziano, Julie Martin, Hargitay, Norberto Barba, Kenneth Brown, and Jankowski for “SVU.” Michele Fazekas is set to join “SVU” as showrunner for its 27th season.
As NBC prepares for its upfront presentation to advertisers on May 12 in New York, there are still pending decisions on the fate of several other shows. Freshman dramas like “Suits LA,” “Brilliant Minds,” “Grosse Pointe Garden Society,” and “The Hunting Party,” as well as sophomore series “The Irrational” and “Found,” are awaiting news on their future. Additionally, comedies “Lopez vs. Lopez” and “Night Court” are also in the mix for potential renewals or cancellations.
Fans can rest assured that their favorite crime dramas will continue to entertain and captivate audiences in the upcoming broadcast season, as NBC shows its commitment to the enduring success of the “Law & Order” franchise.
