Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) strongly criticized President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) on Saturday following a joint U.S. military strike with Israel on Iran. Moulton expressed frustration that Congress is not currently considering a war powers resolution.

Moulton lambasted Speaker Johnson, calling him “completely feckless” and predicting that he will be remembered as the weakest speaker in American history. He mentioned that there are efforts by some members of Congress, including a few Republicans, to push for a vote on a war powers resolution in the coming week, but he believes it is already too late.

President Trump announced “major combat operations in Iran,” which the defense department dubbed “Operation Epic Fury.” He urged the Iranian people to take control of their government in an attempt to bring about regime change. Trump defended the attack by claiming that Iran was continuing to develop its nuclear program and missiles capable of reaching the U.S.

Moulton criticized Trump for the lack of a clear strategy behind the military action, stating that the president failed to articulate the objectives to the American people and the troops involved. The congressman highlighted the mixed reactions to the attack, with some praising it and others questioning the absence of Congressional approval.

Speaker Johnson mentioned that key members of Congress, known as “The Gang of 8,” were briefed on the details of the military action earlier in the week to protect American troops and citizens in Iran.

In response to the operation, Trump warned about potential casualties and loss of American lives, emphasizing that the mission was aimed at securing a better future. Moulton stressed the importance of Congressional authorization for such military actions and cautioned against repeating the mistakes of the Iraq War.

Moulton criticized Trump for seemingly seeking approval only from Benjamin Netanyahu and not consulting the American people or Congress. He pointed out that the decision to go to war should involve a vote from Congress, as outlined in the Constitution.

Overall, Moulton raised concerns about the lack of transparency and accountability in the decision-making process leading to the military strike on Iran. following sentence:
