On Wednesday, MS NOW host Lawrence O’Donnell criticized President Donald Trump over a remark he described as the “stupidest thing ever said by an American politician about inflation.”
O’Donnell commented on Trump, who is nearly 80, saying that the former president often loses track of his own statements. He referred to Trump’s comment, “I love the inflation,” and noted that Trump forgot to explain why he feels that way, despite posing the question himself. O’Donnell highlighted Trump’s incoherent explanation for his supposed “love” of inflation.
O’Donnell suggested that Trump’s admiration for inflation, which recently reached a three-year high, resembled a “sleazy real estate salesman’s pitch.”
“Imagine Donald Trump in the 1980s, attempting to sell an apartment where the only view is a brick wall,” O’Donnell remarked.
“Trump might claim, ‘I love that there’s no view,’ then try to convince the buyer that this is beneficial for sleeping since there would be no direct sunlight to disturb them,” he added.
O’Donnell continued, criticizing the “fast-talking lies” often employed by individuals like Trump, which he deemed particularly evident in this instance.
O’Donnell also criticized Trump for asserting that he loves “every price going up,” which affects even those who supported him. (Note: Trump later clarified to the New York Post that he actually appreciated that inflation was not higher.)
The host emphasized that Republicans are now burdened with Trump’s remarks as they campaign for reelection.
“Democrats can use footage of Trump’s statement in as many campaign ads as they wish,” O’Donnell commented.
