Lawson may not last the season: Montoya

Former Formula One driver Juan Pablo Montoya has raised concerns about the future of Liam Lawson’s season with Racing Bulls.

The Colombian, who enjoyed success in F1 from 2001 to 2006, suggested that Lawson may face the risk of being replaced if he doesn’t show improvement.

Montoya, a seven-time grand prix winner, believes that British-Swedish driver Arvid Lindblad could potentially take Lawson’s seat if his performance doesn’t pick up.

So far in the 2025 season, Lawson’s best finishes have been 12th places in China and Saudi Arabia, with two Did Not Finish (DNF) results to his name.

“If Liam fails to make progress soon, I wouldn’t be surprised if Racing Bulls decide to give Lindblad a chance,” Montoya shared with AS.

“It wouldn’t shock me one bit. If Lawson doesn’t step up his game, Red Bull will likely start looking for alternatives, as that’s their modus operandi,” Montoya added.

Lindblad, who clinched the 2025 Castrol Regional Formula NZ Championship title, is considered a promising prospect for the future of Formula One.

Lawson’s teammate, Isack Hadjar, has consistently outperformed him ever since Lawson made the move back to Racing Bulls from Red Bull.

Recently, Franco Colapinto from Argentina took over the seat previously held by Australian driver Jack Doohan at Alpine.

The F1 championship will head to Imola for round seven this weekend.
