Tragic Death of Newborn Baby Declared Homicide
Tragedy struck in Manhattan last year when a day-old baby, known only as “John Doe” Santiago-Sanchez, was dropped off at a hospital by his mother and later pronounced dead as a result of a homicide, according to police and sources.
The newborn boy arrived unconscious and unresponsive at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center on November 21, 2024, and despite efforts to save him, he tragically passed away.
After more than a year of investigation, the city’s medical examiner recently reclassified the death as a homicide, though specific details regarding the cause of death were not disclosed.
Authorities have not made any arrests in connection with the tragic incident, and the NYPD has remained tight-lipped about the case.
Sources indicated that the infant was born in his mother’s home in Hamilton Heights on West 143rd Street on the same day he was brought to the hospital. His mother transported him to the medical center around 5 p.m., prompting hospital staff to contact the authorities.
Despite ongoing investigations, the city’s medical examiner’s office has yet to provide additional information or comment on the matter.
