In the ever-evolving landscape of online platforms, the quest for establishing trust on a global scale and combatting concerns about authenticity is a challenge that many platforms face. In the year 2025, LinkedIn has taken a significant step towards addressing these issues by accelerating the adoption of profile verification. This trend is particularly prominent in India, which is quickly emerging as a key market for profile verification, underscoring the country’s growing influence on the digital work network sphere.

According to Oscar Rodriguez, LinkedIn’s vice-president of trust products, the platform has witnessed a significant surge in profile verifications, with approximately 30 million verifications being added to profiles each year. This marks a remarkable increase of over 38% year-over-year in 2025, following the milestone announcement that more than 100 million users have incorporated at least one verification into their profiles.

The journey towards profile verification on LinkedIn began in 2022, with the platform rolling out this feature to enhance signals of authenticity. Initially focusing on verifying members’ workplace or identity through methods like company email addresses, the verification process has since evolved to include government-issued ID checks, company pages, and job listings.

Interestingly, the majority of LinkedIn members opting for profile verification have chosen to confirm their workplace affiliation, predominantly through company email addresses. Approximately 60% of verified members have authenticated their workplace association using company credentials, while around 27% have verified their identity through government-issued IDs.

In terms of geographical distribution, the United States boasts the largest share of verified users, constituting roughly 40% of the 100 million members who have embraced verification. However, India is rapidly gaining ground as LinkedIn’s fastest-growing market for profile verification, experiencing an astounding 80% adoption growth over the past year.

India’s prominence in the realm of LinkedIn is further accentuated by its status as one of the platform’s largest and most rapidly expanding user bases globally, with over 160 million users. The surge in verification adoption in India mirrors the broader trend of professional networking, recruitment, and remote work gaining momentum on the platform, showcasing how India’s workforce dynamics are reshaping LinkedIn’s global landscape.

As the adoption of profile verification continues to soar, LinkedIn has extended these authenticity signals beyond its platform. Through initiatives like the “Verified on LinkedIn” program, partner platforms now have the opportunity to display LinkedIn verification badges, with companies like Zoom, Adobe, and G2 already onboard. Additionally, LinkedIn has introduced a self-serve API to facilitate the seamless integration of verification into external services.

The impact of profile verification on LinkedIn’s engagement metrics is palpable, with verified members witnessing up to 60% more profile views and 50% higher interaction on their posts compared to unverified users. Verified company pages also enjoy heightened visibility, attracting more views and follower growth. Rodriguez emphasizes the significance of verifications in bolstering authenticity and trust on LinkedIn, underscoring their role in upholding integrity and safety standards for members and job listings.
