TV producer Karen Gorman passed away on Tuesday after a courageous battle with breast cancer at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She was 59 years old.
Born in Toronto and raised in Los Angeles, Gorman initially started her career as an assistant to Pat Kingsley at PMK Public Relations. She later transitioned into television, working as a segment producer for E! Entertainment Television and Access Hollywood.
One of Gorman’s most notable accomplishments was creating behind-the-scenes content for Ryan Murphy’s acclaimed series “Glee” during her time at Fox Broadcasting. Her videos, which garnered millions of views on YouTube, featured intimate interviews with the show’s stars and became fan favorites. Her warm and inviting energy helped the actors feel at ease, resulting in candid and engaging conversations. In addition to “Glee,” Gorman also contributed her talents to other popular shows such as “Bones,” “The Mindy Project,” and “Brooklyn Nine Nine.” She also produced and directed behind-the-scenes content for the Showtime series “Homeland.”
In addition to her work in scripted television, Gorman also made a mark in the realm of reality TV. She co-created the VH1 series “You Rock With…” and served as an executive producer for the Facebook show “Ladies First with Grace Helbig.” Gorman’s diverse portfolio also includes collaborations with All3Media America, Discovery, and Studio71, where she worked on projects like the Snapchat series “Keepin’ It Real With Keke Palmer,” “Step by Step With Matt Steffanina,” and “Worst Firsts With Brittany Furlan.”
Gorman was preceded in death by her brother, animation writer Alexx Van Dyne, who passed away in May 2023 at the age of 61, as well as her other brother Kerry Gorman, who died in 1992 at the age of 37.
Karen Gorman’s contributions to the television industry will be remembered and cherished by all who had the pleasure of working with her. Her creative vision, dedication, and warm spirit will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones during this difficult time.
