As anticipation builds for the release of Confessions II, a sequel to her 2005 album Confessions On A Dance Floor, Madonna has been busy in the studio for the past year collaborating with Stuart Price.
Previously rumored to appear at Glastonbury in 2024 following the launch of her Celebration Tour in London—an event attended by festival organizer Emily Eavis—Madonna has instead focused on recording.
Insiders now suggest she might headline the Somerset festival in 2027.
However, a music industry insider revealed that Madonna is not keen on taking the Legends slot, scheduled on the festival’s final night at sunset, as she perceives it to be a “grandmother or grandad’s gig.”
The insider explained: “Madonna holds great respect for Glastonbury but does not see herself as a nostalgia act. Although the Legends Slot honors remarkable careers, she thinks it is often linked with artists reliving past successes, such as Dolly Parton.
“She believes she is still producing new music, exploring creative boundaries, and competing with today’s leading artists, so she prefers to headline the festival rather than be seen as a legacy performer.”
Another source involved in festival planning noted: “Madonna is concerned that audiences might perceive her as someone being celebrated for achievements from decades ago. Having built her career on constant reinvention, she continues to view herself as a contemporary artist. From her perspective, accepting the Legends Slot would convey the wrong message—she desires the prime Saturday night headline position.”
