Magda Butrym’s Pre-Fall Collection Showcases Structured Silhouettes and Handcrafted Details
At Magda Butrym’s showroom, located in a sprawling Haussmannian apartment near the Parc Monceau, the standout pieces of her pre-fall collection were the coats. Known for her well-tailored outerwear, Butrym showcased overcoats in rich chocolate and caramel leather or wool. A roomy bomber with slouched shoulders and a belted waist, a dramatic wrap trench with a wide scarf, and a streamlined beige puffer were also highlights of the collection.
The attention to detail extended to jackets, featuring broad, ultra-constructed shoulders and nipped waists. Examples included black wool jackets with portrait necklines, collarless black glossy leather jackets, and retro-inspired peplum jackets in gray check fabric with the designer’s signature rosette detail. A new fabrication, a suede jacket treated to look like corduroy, added a unique touch to the lineup.
Butrym’s structured silhouettes made bold statements through volume, staying true to her love for rich neutrals. The collection drew inspiration from ’90s supermodels, emphasizing padding at the hips to enhance an hourglass figure. Pieces like a draped Ă©cru bustier with a crinkled chocolate brown skirt and a sleeveless column midi dress with a sculptural ruffle around the bustline showcased the designer’s emphasis on volume. Pedal pushers, a recent addition to Butrym’s designs, offered a modern touch to the collection.
Handcraftsmanship played a significant role in the collection, reflecting Butrym’s Slavic roots. Statement pieces included lace lingerie dresses paired with glossy leather skirts, hand-crocheted midi dresses with removable shoulder pads, as well as bralettes and embellished swimwear. Ladylike accessories such as modernized doctor’s bags, satin-finish mules, and slingbacks with rosette details complemented the collection.
As the pieces make their way to the shop floor, they will find a new home in Magda Butrym’s first permanent store in New York’s SoHo neighborhood. With a focus on structured silhouettes, handcrafted details, and rich neutrals, Butrym’s pre-fall collection offers a modern take on feminine elegance.
