Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, known for her role in “Never Have I Ever,” is making a return to high school in the upcoming second season of the “Legally Blonde” prequel series “Elle” on Amazon Prime Video. The first season of the show is set to premiere on July 1, with a second season already in the works and production scheduled to start in the spring.
In “Elle,” Lexi Minetree stars as a young Elle Woods during her high school years, with Ramakrishnan joining the cast as Sam, described as Elle’s ambitious counterpart who lacks her optimism. Sam is depicted as the founder and editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, a stickler for grammar, and an overall joy-killer.
Ramakrishnan has made a name for herself with her role in “Never Have I Ever,” a Netflix series that garnered critical acclaim over its four seasons. She has also lent her voice to various animated projects, including the upcoming Pixar film “Turning Red” and several “My Little Pony” installments. Additionally, she recently appeared in the highly-anticipated sequel “Freakier Friday” alongside Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan.
Represented by CAA, Premier Artists Management, and Felker Toczek Suddleson, Ramakrishnan is set to bring her talent to “Elle” alongside a star-studded cast. The Season 1 lineup includes June Diane Raphael as Elle’s mother Eva, Tom Everett Scott as her father Wyatt, as well as Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Chandler Kinney, and Zac Looker. The recurring cast features Jessica Belkin, Logan Shroyer, Amy Pietz, and more, with the late James Van Der Beek making one of his final onscreen appearances in a guest star role.
“Elle” was created by Laura Kittrell, who also serves as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Caroline Dries. Executive producers include Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Marc Platt, Amanda Brown, and director Jason Moore. The series promises to offer a fresh take on the beloved “Legally Blonde” franchise, exploring Elle Woods’ formative years in high school with a talented ensemble cast and creative team at the helm.
