On Sunday morning, a man and a Larimer County deputy sustained injuries following an incident that began with an attempted traffic stop and escalated into a police shooting, as per county officials.
The Larimer County deputy, who remains unidentified, tried to pull over a driver near Grand Market Avenue and TPC Parkway at 2:32 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
Authorities stated that the driver evaded the deputy, leading to a pursuit down Colorado 60.
Ultimately, the deputy managed to stop the driver just east of Interstate 25 on Colorado 60. However, the driver made a sudden move to accelerate toward the deputy, prompting the deputy to use his service weapon.
While Larimer County sheriff’s officials did not disclose whether the suspect driver was shot or what the bullet struck, they confirmed that both the driver and the deputy sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospitals.
An adult passenger in the suspect vehicle emerged from the incident unscathed.
The suspect driver was discharged from the hospital later that Sunday morning and was subsequently arrested on unspecified charges. The deputy was also treated and released.
Authorities have enlisted the help of Fort Collins police officers and the Eighth Judicial Critical Incident Response Team to investigate the shooting.
