Man With History of Robbery and Carjacking Arrested for Armed Robbery Near Wicker Park
Recent events have shed light on the criminal past of Lance Talbert, the man arrested for allegedly carjacking an armed security guard near Wicker Park. Talbert, who has a history of robbery and vehicular hijacking charges, was previously charged with committing six robberies and five carjackings in a single day three years ago.
The incident in question occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday when four masked men armed with firearms confronted a 32-year-old armed security officer in his car in the 1200 block of North Bosworth. The robbers demanded the officer to exit his orange Dodge Charger, and he complied with their demands.
Chicago police, with the assistance of a department helicopter, were able to intercept the Charger and apprehend Talbert after he attempted to flee the vehicle in the 1900 block of South Trumbull. However, three other suspects who were in the Charger managed to escape in a white SUV, which sped away while dragging an officer, according to a source familiar with the case.
Talbert, 20, has been charged with two counts of armed robbery, one count of aggravated vehicular hijacking, and two counts of firearm possession. He is set to appear for a detention hearing on Wednesday afternoon at 26th and California.
In September 2022, the Chicago Police Department announced that Talbert had been charged with multiple violent crimes committed during a one-day spree in July of that year, including six counts of armed robbery, four counts of aggravated vehicular hijacking, and one count of attempted vehicular hijacking.
It is worth noting that Talbert was under 18 when the aforementioned crimes took place, resulting in his cases being handled in juvenile court where the proceedings are not accessible to the public. Court records also indicate that Talbert faced charges of illegal firearm possession in April 2024, although these charges were later dropped in November.
