Man Charged with Robbery in Rogers Park
CHICAGO — A man has been charged with robbing two individuals, including an off-duty Chicago police officer, in the Rogers Park neighborhood over the weekend.
The incident took place on the 6400 block of North Lakewood as the 28-year-old police officer and a 26-year-old man were leaving a nearby establishment around 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 17, according to authorities.
Two suspects brandished a semi-automatic AK47-style pistol and demanded valuables from the victims. The off-duty officer handed over his wallet and two phones, while the other victim relinquished cash, a necklace, and a phone.
Police officers on the scene reported that the robbers fled in a silver Ford Fusion driven by a woman.
Over 12 hours later, a CPD surveillance camera operator spotted the suspects’ Ford Fusion on 71st Street near Cottage Grove. The authorities pulled over the vehicle and arrested the driver, 26-year-old Teon Ticey. The arrest report indicated that a woman in the passenger seat was found with the off-duty officer’s credit and debit cards. She has not been charged with any offense.
During a court hearing, Judge Deidre Dyer highlighted the calculated and opportunistic nature of the robbery and ordered Ticey to be detained pending trial on two counts of armed robbery.
Court records reveal that Ticey had received two prison sentences in 2022: five years for aggravated battery of a peace officer and two years for forgery. The battery case was linked to an armed habitual criminal charge, while the forgery was associated with escape from electronic monitoring allegations.
