Man Charged with Shooting at Pedestrians from Below CTA Ventilation Grate in the Loop

Authorities have brought charges against Rayvon Savary for allegedly shooting toward two pedestrians in the Loop by firing a gun from beneath a CTA ventilation grate. The unusual incident occurred in the 100 block of North State Street around 8:30 a.m. on Monday, May 26.

According to Chicago police, the two pedestrians, aged 48 and 30, were walking on the sidewalk when Savary started shooting from a restricted area of the CTA’s underground facility. The gunfire reportedly came through a sidewalk grate covering a ventilation area near the State-Lake Red Line entrance. The motive behind the shooting has not been disclosed by the authorities.

Savary is scheduled to appear for a detention hearing at 26th and California on Wednesday afternoon. He is facing charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a weapon. In addition, he has been cited for various CTA-related violations.
