A man was discovered with a gunshot wound at an Uptown intersection early Sunday morning, but he refused to cooperate with Chicago police officers who arrived to assist him.
The incident occurred in the 4800 block of North Sheridan around 5:12 a.m. after a 911 call reported a man falling out of an SUV. The man was found with a gunshot wound to his lower right leg, according to the Chicago Police Department.
Surveillance footage reviewed by an officer revealed that the injured man arrived at the intersection in an SUV, exited the vehicle, and sat on the ground at approximately 5:03 a.m. He was already shot when he arrived at the scene. The man was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and was reported to be in good condition.
Investigators believe that the shooting took place near the 4900 block of North Winthrop around 5 a.m. This suspicion is supported by reports of shots fired in that area, which is only a block or two away from where the injured man was discovered.
In Uptown, only two individuals have been shot so far this year, a decrease from seven victims at this time last year. The shooting victim totals for previous years are as follows:
– 2023: 4
– 2022: 9
– 2021: 5
– 2020: 7
– 2019: 8
