A Man Sentenced to Prison for Carjacking a Rolls-Royce in Chicago

A man who carjacked a Rolls-Royce on Chicago’s Southwest Side while still on probation for a gun case won’t be riding in luxury anytime soon. A judge gave him a 10-year prison sentence Friday, but he’ll serve about half that with good behavior.

The high-end hijacking happened around 5:30 p.m. on June 27, 2024, in the 9100 block of South Hoyne Avenue in Beverly. A 54-year-old woman was sitting in her silver 2017 Rolls-Royce Wraith when a dark SUV pulled up and blocked her path, police said.

A gunman stepped out, took the car at gunpoint, and sped away. In case you haven’t been shopping for a Rolls-Royce lately, a used Wraith typically fetches north of $160,000.

Two weeks later, a CPD license plate reader pinged the SUV that was used in the hijacking near 210 West 51st Street. Officers with the department’s carjacking task force quietly followed it until 20-year-old Trevon Robinson got out and strolled into a Foot Locker at 4715 South Ashland Avenue. They arrested him inside.

It turned out the SUV was hot, too. Police said it had been carjacked from a woman in the 1900 block of East 95th Street earlier that month.

Detectives also recovered a video Robinson allegedly recorded of himself following the hijacked Rolls-Royce on the day of the crime, along with a note on his phone listing the victim’s home address.

On Friday, Robinson pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular hijacking with a weapon before Judge Michael Clancy. He was credited with 493 days earned while in the Cook County Jail.

Court records show Robinson had pleaded guilty to aggravated unlawful use of a weapon less than three months before the carjacking. He reported to Stateville Correctional Center on April 5, 2024, but was released the same day after receiving time-served credit.
