A Texas man has been taken into custody after allegedly killing his wife over her perceived lack of concern for his back pain.
Jose Romero faces murder charges for the death of his wife, Yanira Marin de Romero, on May 2. According to a press release from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, 43-year-old Romero allegedly shot the 39-year-old Marin de Romero during a dispute while she was in the bathroom of their Cloverleaf residence.
At the time of the incident, the couple’s three children, aged 3, 8, and 13, were present in the home, as reported by KHOU, but were unharmed.
Authorities arrived at the scene following the shooting, where Marin de Romero was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the location.
Romero is reported to have called 911, declaring to dispatchers that he had shot his wife. The police press release states, “Upon arrival, deputies located [Romero] and detained him without incident.” Romero informed homicide detectives that he shot Marin de Romero because she did not take his back pain seriously.
Following his arrest, Romero was placed in custody at the Harris County Jail.
It remains unclear whether Romero has entered a plea or secured legal representation. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to Us Weekly’s inquiry for comments about the case.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
Family member Jacky Romero expressed the family’s grief on Facebook after the tragedy, sharing how Marin de Romero’s death has affected them deeply.
“My heart and our family are shattered, unable to accept this reality,” Jacky wrote in the post on May 4. “They were a marriage I could call almost perfect.”
Jacky further mentioned that the couple had been together since their adolescence and had progressed through life side by side, describing them as “our family’s pride.”
In the continued Facebook post, Jacky explained that their family is enduring a very difficult time, and the couple’s children will now grow up without their parents together.
“[Marin de Romero] left this world perhaps without even knowing what happened in that moment,” Jacky added.
Alongside the heartfelt message, Jacky shared a photo of the couple together and another of them with their three children.
