An East Chicago Man Accused of Violent Robberies in Chicago Loop
An East Chicago man, Michael Seawood, 24, is facing charges for his alleged involvement in five violent robberies in the Loop and along the Magnificent Mile last summer. The crimes resulted in four victims being knocked unconscious during the attacks.
Seawood is charged with five counts of robbery, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, and aggravated battery in a public place.
Prosecutors state that Seawood and at least one accomplice targeted a 52-year-old Loop resident in the early hours of July 6 in the 400 block of North Lower Michigan Avenue. The victim suffered a broken jaw that required surgery to have plates installed, rendering him motionless during the attack.
During the altercation, a 28-year-old man visiting from Las Vegas tried to intervene but was also attacked by Seawood, resulting in him being knocked to the ground and rendered motionless as well.
After incapacitating the victims, Seawood and his accomplices proceeded to rob them, taking cash and phones from both men before leaving the scene.
On August 1, Seawood and multiple accomplices targeted a 29-year-old man in the 100 block of East Illinois Street in Streeterville. The victim was struck in the back of the head, knocked to the ground, and had his phone, wallet, and other belongings stolen.
The following day, Seawood and two accomplices attacked and robbed two brothers, ages 19 and 22, near the corner of Michigan Avenue and Lake Street in the Loop. The younger brother was punched in the face, causing him to briefly lose consciousness, while the older brother was also knocked to the ground and robbed of his possessions.
Three Chicago police officers were able to identify Seawood as one of the suspects involved in the robberies.
Seawood has been detained pending trial by Judge John Hock.
