The tragic death of Derrick Robie at the Morse Red Line station has brought back memories of a chilling incident involving him that occurred years ago. As a writer covering Chicago crime, it takes a lot for a story to stick with you, but Robie’s history of violence and criminal behavior in the city’s transit system made him unforgettable.

One such incident that stands out is the callous act committed by Robie and another individual at the Loyola Red Line station in 2018. After a man named Eric “Julian” Hall fell down the stairs and suffered fatal injuries, Robie and his accomplice not only failed to assist him but also callously stole his wallet before walking away. This heartless act ultimately led to Hall’s death, highlighting the depths of depravity to which Robie would sink.

Despite his criminal record and violent behavior, Robie managed to evade justice multiple times, only to continue his reign of terror on the city’s public transportation system. From robbing off-duty police officers to intimidating and extorting innocent passengers, Robie’s actions instilled fear and chaos among commuters.

Even after being identified by a vigilant reader and facing multiple charges, including armed robbery and assault, Robie somehow managed to evade serious consequences. A judge’s decision to release him without restrictions only served to embolden him further, leading to his eventual demise at the hands of a gunman outside the Morse station.

The shooting that claimed Robie’s life also left a trail of destruction, with storefront windows shattered and chaos reigning on the block. Despite being armed himself, Robie could not escape the violence that he had perpetuated for so long.

As Chicago mourns the loss of Derrick Robie, his story serves as a grim reminder of the consequences of unchecked violence and criminal behavior. The city’s transit system may be a little safer without him, but the scars of his actions will linger for years to come.
