Man Charged with Shooting 11-Year-Old in Wicker Park Road Rage Incident

CHICAGO — A 27-year-old man, Jeston Harris, has been charged with shooting an 11-year-old boy during a road rage altercation in Wicker Park two weeks ago. Harris is set to appear for a detention hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse on Christmas Eve.

The incident took place in the 1400 block of North Western Avenue at 8:27 a.m. on Friday, December 13. According to Chicago police, the boy was riding in a vehicle driven by one of his grandparents when their car struck another vehicle, resulting in minor damage. As the boy’s relative exited the vehicle to exchange information, the driver of the other car opened fire, hitting the boy in his left hand. The child was transported to Stroger Hospital and is currently in good condition.

Further details about the shooting and the ongoing investigation will be revealed during Harris’ court appearance. He is facing charges of aggravated battery by discharging a firearm and four counts of aggravated assault by discharging a firearm.

Notably, five individuals have been shot in Wicker Park and Bucktown this year, a decrease from eight incidents in 2023 and ten in 2022.

CWBChicago was established in 2013 by a group of residents from Wrigleyville and Boystown who were dissatisfied with the misinformation prevalent at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Over the years, our coverage area has expanded to include neighborhoods like Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side areas. Despite this growth, our core mission remains unchanged: to deliver original public safety reporting with in-depth context and accuracy beyond what mainstream media outlets offer.
