A shooting incident occurred in the Loop late Saturday night, leaving a 35-year-old man in serious condition. The incident took place around 11:24 p.m. in the 700 block of South Wells Street. According to officials, the victim was standing outside when an unidentified man shot him following an argument.
The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his lower back and a graze wound to his chin. He was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he remains in serious condition as of Sunday morning. Witnesses described the shooter as a Black male with purple-tinted dreadlocks or twists and glasses. The suspect fled the scene before the arrival of law enforcement, and no arrests have been made.
In the Loop, this incident marks the third shooting of the year. Comparatively, in recent years, the number of shootings in the Loop by this time of the year is as follows: 2024 – 7, 2023 – 12, 2022 – 22, 2021 – 14, 2020 – 7, 2019 – 5. It is important to note that the data includes officer-involved shootings and unintentional self-inflicted gunshot injuries.
