Man Charged with Attempted Murder After TV Show Dispute Leads to Stabbing
Authorities have filed charges against a man for attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed a friend multiple times during an argument over a television show.
Law enforcement officers were called to an apartment in the 7700 block of South Yates in Chicago at approximately 3:30 a.m. on April 23 following a 911 call reporting a stabbing incident.
Upon arrival, police discovered a 42-year-old man inside the apartment who had sustained seven stab wounds, including three to his back.
According to reports, a witness and the victim stated that a 33-year-old man named Sayyid Thomas had changed the channel on the TV, triggering a disagreement between Thomas and the victim.
The altercation escalated, leading Thomas to allegedly stab the victim multiple times in the abdomen, leg, chest, shoulder, and buttocks.
Thomas was apprehended by Chicago Police officers during a routine patrol, as indicated in his arrest report.
Following a court appearance, Judge Ankur Srivastava ordered Thomas to be detained as a safety precaution, citing the extreme violence and senselessness of the allegations.
