Keondre Pitts, an 18-year-old with two carjacking cases pending in juvenile court, recently teamed up with a 13-year-old accomplice to commit a carjacking near Goose Island in Chicago. The incident took place around 2:45 a.m. on October 9 in the 700 block of West Division. According to officials, the 13-year-old brandished a gun as they robbed a man of his 2024 Honda Civic.

Shortly after the carjacking, the Chicago Police Department’s hijacking task force broadcasted the Civic’s license plate and location. State troopers were able to locate the hijacked vehicle near Lafayette and 95th Street. The troopers followed the car, but Pitts and the 13-year-old attempted to flee by abandoning the vehicle and running away. During the pursuit, the 13-year-old discarded a loaded 9-millimeter handgun, which was later recovered by authorities.

Following the incident, Judge David Kelly granted a state petition to keep Pitts in custody pending trial. The judge referenced video evidence and Pitts’ prior involvement in two vehicular hijacking cases in juvenile court before he reached the age of 18.

This troubling event underscores the ongoing issue of carjackings in Chicago and the involvement of young individuals in these crimes. It serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing juvenile delinquency and providing support and resources to prevent such criminal behavior in the future.
