Uptown Man Attempts to Rob Two Banks on Magnificent Mile, Fails Miserably
An Uptown man, identified as Herman Johnson, 50, made a bold attempt to rob not one, but two banks on the prestigious Magnificent Mile in Chicago. However, his efforts were in vain as he left both establishments empty-handed, prosecutors revealed.
Johnson first targeted Citibank at 539 North Michigan Avenue around 4:40 p.m. on October 4. He handed the teller a threatening note demanding money, but to his dismay, the teller simply returned the note and Johnson exited the bank without any cash, as per a Chicago police report.
Undeterred by his initial failure, Johnson crossed the street to Bank of America at 500 North Michigan and repeated his unsuccessful robbery attempt just 15 minutes later. Once again, he left the bank without achieving his goal of obtaining money, the report stated.
Law enforcement officers swiftly arrested Johnson in the 600 block of North Michigan shortly after the second failed robbery attempt. Despite being charged with two counts of attempted robbery, prosecutors did not request for him to be held in custody. However, records show that Johnson missed his initial court appearance on October 10 and was subsequently apprehended on a failure to appear warrant two days later. He is currently detained in the county jail.
It seems like Johnson’s ill-fated bank robbery spree on the Magnificent Mile did not go as planned, ultimately leading to his incarceration.
