A man with a history of violence has been charged with another shooting incident, this time during a road rage altercation on the Stevenson Expressway. Jesus Rodriguez, 34, who had previously served time for a shooting in 2008, is now facing charges for this latest incident. Judge James Murphy has ordered Rodriguez to be detained pending trial, citing his past involvement in illegal gun possession and gun violence.
The shooting took place on the inbound expressway near Harlem Avenue at approximately 5:30 p.m. on April 23. Prosecutors revealed that Rodriguez chased another driver on the expressway and fired multiple shots at the victim, hitting them twice in the left arm. Witnesses described the shooting as unprovoked.
Authorities were able to identify Rodriguez’s vehicle and obtain video footage showing him driving it just minutes before the shooting occurred. This crucial evidence linked Rodriguez to the crime.
In 2008, Rodriguez was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated battery involving a firearm. While he had also faced attempted murder charges at the time, those were dropped as part of a plea deal. Now, Rodriguez is once again facing charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery related to the expressway shooting.
