Sitting in his Oasis-themed bar, surrounded by merchandise and memorabilia, Paul Gallagher reflects on Manchester’s connection with one of its most famous musical exports.
“There’s not actually that much to see in Manchester, Oasis-wise,” he muses, as the band’s iconic song “Stand By Me” plays in the background. “You go to Liverpool and the whole city is centered around the Beatles.”
In the past, Manchester may not have been as sentimental about its musical heritage, but times have changed. This year, Oasis will reunite for a series of concerts in their hometown, 16 years after their breakup. Around 400,000 fans, dressed in Adidas and bucket hats, are expected to attend, eager for a dose of nostalgia.
For Gallagher, opening the Oasis-themed bar was a long-held dream. Named Definitely Maybe after the band’s first album, the bar has become a hub for fans ahead of the concerts. Oasis themselves have also joined in on the celebration, launching a pop-up shop in Spinningfields, offering exclusive merchandise and interactive experiences for fans.
Local artist Mark Kennedy, known for his pop culture mosaics, has added to the excitement by creating a new mural of Noel and Liam Gallagher on the wall of the bar. The city of Manchester has fully embraced the Oasis frenzy, with advertisements, flags, and special promotions popping up all over the city.
As a fan of Oasis from the 90s era, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia and excitement for the upcoming concerts. The city has transformed over the years, but its ability to embrace its musical heritage and create a buzz around events like this is truly remarkable.

The city is buzzing with anticipation, and businesses are capitalizing on the opportunity to cater to fans and visitors alike.
