Your guide to what Trump’s second term means for Washington, business, and the world

Police are currently on the lookout for Vance Boelter, the suspect in the tragic killing of Minnesota state representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, as well as the shooting of state senator John Hoffman and his wife. Senator Amy Klobuchar revealed on NBC’s Meet the Press that the shooter is believed to still be in the Midwest, with alerts being issued in both South Dakota and Minnesota. The FBI has even offered a $50,000 reward for any information that could lead to the arrest of Boelter, who is considered armed and dangerous.

The shocking events unfolded when Hortman was fatally shot at her home in Brooklyn Park, just a short distance from Champlin, where Hoffman resides and was also targeted. Hoffman and his wife are currently in stable condition in the hospital as of Saturday evening. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has condemned the shootings as acts of “targeted political violence.”

Boelter, a pastor who also operates a local security services firm, is accused of approaching both lawmakers while dressed as a police officer before opening fire. Reports indicate that he used what appeared to be a police vehicle during the attacks. His security services firm, Praetorian Guard, showcases Ford SUVs similar to those used by law enforcement agencies.

The website further claims that Boelter has experience in security operations across various regions, including eastern Europe, Africa, North America, and the Middle East, with involvement in conflict zones like the West Bank, southern Lebanon, and the Gaza Strip. Additionally, he is said to have worked for major companies such as the largest US oil refining company, a Swiss-based food giant, and a Japanese convenience retailer.

A LinkedIn profile linked to Boelter identifies him as the CEO of Red Lion Group, reportedly based in the Democratic Republic of Congo. A manifesto found in Boelter’s vehicle contained the names of prominent abortion rights activists and local politicians, according to interviews with officials.

State records reveal that Boelter was appointed by Governor Walz to the governor’s Workforce Development Board. The search for Boelter continues as authorities work tirelessly to bring him to justice and provide closure to the families affected by this senseless act of violence.
