Happy Friday, March 28th, 2025! Today marks the 87th day of the year, with 278 days left to go.

Today in History:

Back on March 28, 1979, a tragic event unfolded as America experienced its worst commercial nuclear accident at the Three Mile Island plant in Pennsylvania, with a partial meltdown inside the Unit 2 reactor.

In 1898, a significant ruling was made by the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of United States v. Wong Kim Ark, establishing that a child born in the U.S. to Chinese immigrants like Wong was indeed an American citizen.

Fast forward to 1935, the infamous Nazi propaganda film “Triumph des Willens” premiered in Berlin, directed by Leni Riefenstahl with Adolf Hitler in attendance.

In 1941, the literary world mourned the loss of author Virginia Woolf, who tragically took her own life near her home in England.

In 1969, the nation bid farewell to the 34th President of the United States, Dwight D. Eisenhower, who passed away in Washington, D.C. at the age of 78.

Jumping ahead to recent years, in 2022, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis made headlines by signing the controversial Florida Parental Rights in Education Act, commonly known as the “Don’t Say Gay” law, restricting discussions on sexual orientation and gender identity in certain grade levels in Florida schools.

In 2024, FTX cryptocurrency exchange founder Sam Bankman-Fried faced consequences for his actions, receiving a 25-year prison sentence after being found guilty of fraud and conspiracy charges related to the exchange’s collapse.
