Margot Robbie Reveals Crippling 'Crisis' in Confidence and Career Fears After Comeback Movie Bombs at Box Office

Following the disappointing performance of her recent romantic comedy A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, Margot Robbie opened up about her persistent anxiety regarding the sustainability of her career in Hollywood. Despite a notable marketing push and striking red carpet appearances, the film failed to attract audiences.

Robbie confessed, “I never have a moment where I feel it’s all sorted. Each time, I think, ‘Oh no, it’s all going to be taken away from me; I won’t get this opportunity again.’ I experience a full-blown crisis of faith every time, questioning, ‘What am I doing?’ I genuinely care so much.”

However, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey only managed to pull in $3.5 million its opening weekend in the United States and reached a global total of $8 million, significantly below its $50 million production budget. Reviews were lukewarm, with a mere 37 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This marks one of the weakest openings in Robbie’s career, trailing behind her past flops, Babylon ($3.6 million) and Amsterdam ($6.4 million).

Interestingly, Robbie’s apprehension about being marginalized in Hollywood has influenced her decision to avoid her native Aussie accent in films. When offered the chance to utilize her accent for A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, she declined.

Robbie shared, “I haven’t used my real accent since Neighbours. Accents are my way of blending into my characters. There will come a time when I embrace my accent again. I briefly considered it, but ultimately thought, ‘It’s too much for now.’

Though she initially desired a hiatus following her participation in the global smash hit Barbie, she was drawn to the script for A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, especially with Colin Farrell as her co-star. “I had planned to step away after Barbie’s massive success,” Robbie reflected, adding, “but reading this script felt magical, and knowing Colin was on board made it irresistible. I didn’t want to miss out on this opportunity.”
