I had the incredible opportunity to work alongside the visionary founders of Valentino and the talented Fendi sisters, who served as my mentors. Their guidance and expertise were invaluable, and I learned so much from them during my time in the fashion industry. As the landscape of fashion evolved into a system dominated by large corporations, I witnessed the significant changes that took place.
However, in my opinion, the most impactful transformation occurred with the advent of new media and communication channels. This shift brought fashion to a whole new level of accessibility and popularity, reaching a wider audience than ever before. Previously, fashion discussions were confined to a select group of insiders who were well-versed in the industry. Now, with the rise of social media and digital platforms, the conversation has become more inclusive, engaging individuals who may have little to no knowledge of the intricacies of fashion design and production.
The democratization of fashion has its benefits, but it also poses a challenge in terms of conveying the depth and complexity of the creative process behind each collection. With the constant bombardment of images and information, there is a risk of superficiality and a lack of appreciation for the artistry and craftsmanship involved in fashion.
Looking ahead, it is difficult to predict the future trajectory of the fashion industry. Like all things, there are cyclical patterns of change and continuity. Perhaps it is time to reevaluate our approach to the system and consider new perspectives. In a world where attention spans are shorter and instant gratification is the norm, we must find innovative ways to engage with our audience and convey the essence of our art.
In my current role at Teatro della Cometa, our programming will reflect a diverse range of artistic disciplines, including music, theater, dance, and performance. Inspired by the multidisciplinary approach we implemented at Dior, we aim to create a platform for creatives from various fields to collaborate and showcase their talents. Each discipline will have its own curator, and a scientific/artistic committee will oversee the program to ensure a dynamic and engaging lineup.
Our vision is to offer a rotating schedule of performances, with different disciplines featured on a monthly basis. This format will provide our audience with a diverse and enriching cultural experience, akin to a festival atmosphere where creativity knows no bounds. By embracing this innovative approach, we hope to inspire and captivate our audience, fostering a deeper appreciation for the arts in all its forms.
