Some challenges extend well beyond the realm of politics. The deepening chasm of political polarization, coupled with a dissonance in our collective moral compass, points to a troubling trend. One of the key reasons Donald Trump has managed to forge a “tyranny of the minority” is his adeptness at wielding the Fox News playbook, systematically undermining the fundamental truths that once united the nation.
Among the most alarming maneuvers executed by Trump and his party since reclaiming power in 2025 was their attempt to exploit the tragic shooting of Charlie Kirk. In a bid to politicize violence, they endeavored to shift the narrative and frame political violence as a divisive partisan debate.
In a move reminiscent of a magician’s sleight of hand, Trump and his supporters hastily assigned blame to Democrats for Kirkâs death, falsely asserting that their political adversaries were the root cause of the surge in political violence across the United States.
However, as is often the case with Trump, he overreached regarding the Kirk incident. After a fleeting moment in the spotlight, the martyrdom narrative surrounding Kirk seemed to dissipate, as Trump appeared to covet the attention directed at Kirk in death and subsequently urged the media to pivot the conversation.
Following Trumpâs inflammatory call for the execution of congressional Democrats who advised the military against following unlawful orders, one of those targeted, Senator Mark Kelly, made an appearance on CBSâs Face The Nation.
Kelly articulated the heightened threats he now faces as a consequence of Trumpâs rhetoric, stating:
ââWhat the president said is very serious. I didnât think he would step over that line calling for the execution of members of Congress, and his words carry tremendous weight more so than anybody else in the country, and he should be aware of that. And because of what he says, there is now increased threats against us.â
