A new animated spin-off from the popular “Black Panther” franchise was showcased at the Annecy Animation Festival in France. Titled “Eyes of Wakanda,” the first episode, “Into the Lion’s Den,” was unveiled by director Todd Harris during a panel session followed by a Q&A.
The story is set in 1260 B.C. and follows the journey of Noni, a disgraced former Dora Milaje turned Wakandan secret agent, as she tracks down Lion, a defector from the Wakandan guard leading a group of pirates. Lion has stolen Wakandan technology to establish his own kingdom. Each 30-minute episode, produced by Axis Animation, will explore different time periods spanning centuries, focusing on artefacts taken in an “anthology adjacent” format. Director Todd Harris hinted at the appearance of familiar Marvel characters, promising a unique take on characters like Iron Fist.
