The tragic car crash on July 6, 2024, that claimed the lives of Vikings rookie Khyree Jackson and his two former high school teammates has taken a new turn with the arrest of Cori Clingman. The grand jury indicted Clingman on 13 counts, including DUI and criminally negligent vehicular manslaughter.

Clingman, who was allegedly driving the vehicle involved in the crash, has been charged after nearly seven months since the incident. The charges include a maximum of 30 years in prison. The Prince George’s County State’s Attorney, Aisha Braveboy, expressed the immense loss suffered by the families and the community due to the untimely deaths of Jackson, Isaiah Hazel, and Anthony Lytton Jr.

The fatal crash occurred in the early hours of July 6 when Clingman’s Infinity Q50 collided with a Dodge Charger, carrying Jackson, Hazel, and Lytton, along with a Chevrolet Impala. The Charger veered off the road and struck multiple stumps, resulting in the tragic deaths of Jackson and Hazel at the scene, while Lytton succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Reports suggest that the cars were street racing prior to the crash, leading to the devastating outcome. Details of the investigation indicate that Clingman had a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit of 0.08 percent at the time of the incident. Braveboy emphasized the need for justice for the victims, their families, Wise High School, the NFL, and the entire community affected by the loss.

All three victims were talented football players, with Hazel having played for Maryland and Charlotte, and Lytton having been associated with Florida State and Penn State’s football programs. Jackson, drafted in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, had been actively participating in the Vikings’ OTAs and minicamp before the tragic accident.

The impact of the crash reverberated through the sports community, with tributes and vigils held to honor the lives of the three young men whose promising futures were cut short. The arrest of Clingman marks a significant step in seeking justice for the victims and their loved ones, as they continue to mourn the loss of these talented athletes.
