A Massachusetts mother is seeking to have her murder trial separated into two parts so that a jury can independently determine if she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and insanity when she allegedly killed her three children.

Lindsay Clancy is requesting one trial to ascertain her responsibility for the deaths of her kids Cora, Dawson, and Callan, who were strangled with an exercise band in their Duxbury, Mass. residence in January 2023.

In a separate phase of the trial, jurors would decide if Clancy was experiencing a mental illness or defect at the time of the alleged murders.

Clancy is expected to appear in court in Plymouth later today.

Her defense team has been navigating logistical challenges related to Clancy’s wheelchair-bound state due to being a paraplegic and her upcoming mental evaluation by prosecutors’ expert.

Prosecutors have requested their own evaluation of Clancy after her defense claimed she was innocent due to a mental break during the crimes.

Clancy has alleged that her doctors failed to diagnose her bipolar disorder and overmedicated her, leading to the tragic events. Her husband has also filed a lawsuit against her doctors for overmedication.

During a hearing, Clancy’s lawyer expressed concerns about her transportation to court and the potential for self-harm during the trial, as she has been on suicide watch since her arrest.
