This week, ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) executed a series of immigration raids on the affluent islands of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts, resulting in the detention of approximately forty individuals slated for deportation.
It’s quite the spectacle, especially considering the uproar a few years back when Florida Governor Ron DeSantis sent a handful of migrants to Martha’s Vineyard. The local response was nothing short of dramatic; they seemed eager to usher those individuals out the door.
Now, Massachusetts Democratic Governor Maura Healey is expressing her discontent regarding the recent ICE operations. Her call for more transparency from the agency is particularly rich, given that a proactive collaboration could have kept her better informed about ICE’s activities in her own state.

Blue state governor sounds off about ‘disturbing’ ICE operations on affluent liberal islands
Governor Maura Healey of Massachusetts has voiced her frustration over ICE’s recent enforcement actions, describing the arrests of around 40 undocumented immigrants in Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard as “disturbing.”
ICE, in conjunction with various federal law enforcement agencies, conducted these immigration enforcement operations on Tuesday. An official statement indicated that among those arrested were an MS-13 gang member and at least one individual connected to child exploitation.
Patricia Hyde, the acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston, emphasized that “ICE and our federal partners made a strong stand for prioritizing public safety by arresting and removing illegal aliens from our New England neighborhoods,” highlighting the collaborative efforts of law enforcement.
In stark contrast, Governor Healey articulated her concerns: “It was very disturbing, needless to say, to wake up to that news about that activity on Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket,” she stated, according to the Boston Herald. “Local police chiefs have zero information about what’s happening in their communities. We at the state level have zero information about what’s happening in communities. And that needs to change. We need to get answers. We need to get clarification from ICE.”

JUST IN: ICE has just raided the island of Nantucket, carting off a bunch of illegals with them. Obama has a house right around the corner. ICE should drop them off there! pic.twitter.com/0NGyGzjmFf

So, one might wonder: why is the governor so upset about these actions? After all, ICE appears to be performing a service for her state.
