CBS is launching its premiere week with fresh episodes across the board, but there’s a curious scheduling quirk with Matlock and Elsbeth as they roll out multiple new episodes just days apart.

The network debuted the season 2 premiere of Matlock on Sunday, October 12, quickly followed by the season 3 premiere of Elsbeth. Traditionally, both series air on Thursdays, a schedule they will return to starting October 16.

Just like last season, CBS has aired certain shows at different times to build excitement and anticipation for the ongoing season. This strategy has been effective in drawing viewers.

This week’s lineup will also see the return of shows from the NCIS franchise as well as The Neighborhood, Watson, FBI, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Ghosts, Fire Country, and Tracker. Additionally, new programming awaits viewers, including DMV, Sheriff Country, Boston Blue, and The Road.

CBS Fall 2025 TV Schedule for New and Returning Shows Justin Hartley from Tracker Skye P Marshall from Matlock and Max Thieriot from Fire Country 009

As Fire Country gears up to return on Friday nights, creators Tony Phelan and Joan Rater shared insights with Us Weekly about the transformations the show will undergo following the departures of Stephanie Arcila and Billy Burke.

Phelan expressed a strong intent to “shake things up” while remaining authentic to the challenges faced by firefighters. Rater noted that the “significant loss” of these characters would indeed impact the dynamics as season 4 unfolds.

While Vince’s character has been killed off, Gabriela may make a comeback. Phelan elaborated that for Gabriela, it became hard to engage with Bode after everything that has transpired. “Taking a break from their connection allows for growth, and if they reunite, they’ll be changed individuals,” he commented in September.

Rater concurred, saying it’s essential for the storylines to allow characters to mature. “Bode and Gabriela both recognize that they must develop separately for now,” she added.

On Tracker, Justin Hartley, Fiona Rene, and Chris Lee are the only regular cast members remaining after the exits of Eric Graise and Abby McEnany prior to the third season. Tracker also saw Robin Weigert leave following the season one finale.

Viewers have expressed concern over potential cast adjustments, prompting executive producer Elwood Reid to reassure Us Weekly that changes could very well happen.

“I believe the show is evolving. If characters like Randy, Reenie, or Bobby can’t go through transformations, that’s when we start to lose our way,” he shared with Us in May. “The audience really learns about them as the story progresses—avoiding a repetitive formula is crucial,” Reid clarified. “I want to see each week deliver something fresh in terms of challenges and character development,” he added. “Meeting interesting local personalities is going to become even more of a focus this season. It’ll be entertaining to watch Justin interact with a variety of guest stars.”
