Marin Majic, a Brooklyn-based artist, employs a unique blend of colored pencil and marble dust to create a substance akin to oil, which he applies to linen canvases. This technique results in richly textured surfaces reminiscent of fabric or plaster. His artworks feature matte finishes that exude a magical glow, akin to stars twinkling in a night sky.

Majic’s pieces are enveloped in mystery, exploring themes of power, transience, and the elusive nature of reality. The figures in his works are often depicted in isolation, whether swimming alone or driving through a deserted mountain pass. Insects and animals share this solitary existence, as seen in works like “Negative attention,” where a glistening spiderweb captures a few vibrant specimens, highlighting the transient nature of life.

Majic’s work is characterized by deep shadows and hazy scenes, with small illuminated areas revealing glimpses of the broader landscape. The mysterious quality of his art is further enhanced by his use of materials. He employs marble dust to highlight and define light, creating a sparkling effect on otherwise matte surfaces.

Currently, Majic is gearing up for several group exhibitions this summer, and he is also planning a book release with Nino Mier Gallery. More of his work can be found on Instagram.
