Apple TV has recently released a sneak peek at their upcoming horror comedy series, “Widow’s Bay,” starring the talented Matthew Rhys. The show is set to premiere with the first three episodes on April 29, followed by weekly installments every Wednesday until June 17.
Set in the quaint island town of Widow’s Bay, located 40 miles off the coast of New England, the series follows Mayor Tom Loftis, played by Rhys, as he strives to revitalize his struggling community. Despite facing challenges such as lack of wifi, poor cellular reception, and superstitious locals who believe the island is cursed, Mayor Loftis is determined to earn their respect and transform the island into a thriving tourist destination. However, as tourists begin to flock to the island, long-forgotten eerie events from the past resurface, proving the locals’ suspicions to be true.
Joining Matthew Rhys in the cast are Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Caroll, and Dale Dickey, who bring their own unique flair to the mysterious and comedic atmosphere of “Widow’s Bay.”
The series is helmed by Emmy-winning director Hiro Murai, best known for his work on acclaimed shows like “Atlanta” and “The Bear,” who directed five episodes of “Widow’s Bay.” Additional episodes are directed by Ti West, Sam Donovan, and Andrew DeYoung, each contributing their own creative vision to the unfolding story.
“Widow’s Bay” is created by Katie Dippold, who also serves as the showrunner and executive producer. Murai joins as an executive producer through his Chum Films production company, alongside Carver Karaszewski, Claudia Shin, and Matthew Rhys. Apple Studios is behind the production of the series, promising viewers a thrilling and darkly humorous ride through the mysteries of Widow’s Bay.
