Donald Trump is gearing up for a potential comeback, and he’s bringing back some familiar faces from his first administration to help make it happen. The former president is assembling a team of experienced advisors to help shape his policies and priorities if he were to be re-elected. This time around, the transition process seems to be more streamlined and focused, with key players from Trump’s inner circle taking the lead.

Leading the transition team is Linda McMahon, former head of the Small Business Administration, who is spearheading the policy side of things. Howard Lutnick, a billionaire financier, is overseeing personnel vetting. Together, they are working to ensure a smoother transition process than what was seen in 2016 when there was a power vacuum created by internal conflicts.

The policy preparations are being kept under wraps to avoid media scrutiny and potential interference from the Biden administration. Trump is known for being superstitious and prefers not to plan too far ahead until things are concrete. The team is taking lessons from the past and working diligently to avoid any disruptions or personnel controversies.

Several key figures from the Trump administration are involved in crafting policy plans, including U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, Special envoy for Iran Brian Hook, Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe, and Interior Secretary David Bernhardt. These individuals are working on various aspects of policy planning, from trade and economic strategies to national security and justice department policies.

The focus of the transition is on vetting candidates for federal job openings, which is overseen by Lutnick. The process is highly compartmentalized, with only a select few having insight into the decision-making process. The transition team is also working on agency-specific “landing teams” to facilitate the handoff to the next administration.

Despite some challenges with accessing federal resources due to a lack of agreement with the Biden administration, the transition team is moving forward. Lutnick has expressed willingness to sign agreements in the near future to ensure a smooth transition process. Some advisers have suggested ways to work around these challenges, including bypassing background checks for top aides and granting security clearances independently.

Overall, the Trump transition team is focused on preparing for a potential return to the White House, with a strong emphasis on policy planning and personnel vetting. The team is working diligently to avoid the turmoil of past transitions and ensure a seamless handoff if Trump were to win another term in office.
