Royal author Phil Dampier comments on Meghan Markle’s strategic move
Royal author and journalist Phil Dampier recently commented on Meghan Markle’s latest social media move, saying that “Nothing happens by accident and she would have thought this through and knows putting a photo of her children out at the same time as her clothing line would get maximum publicity.”
Markle, who has 2.6 million followers on her personal account, recently shared a photo with a dove emoji and the caption “Every day is a love story.” This post coincided with the launch of her clothing line, As Ever, which has around 734,000 followers.
Markle’s clothing line features a range of upmarket gear, including a Heidi Merrick’s “Windsor” gown for $1,500, Saint Laurent sandals priced at $750, a $550 necklace, and a $250 linen shirt. Each item listed in her collection has clickable links for followers to purchase, potentially earning Markle a commission.
Former press secretary to the late Queen, Dickie Arbiter, weighed in on the situation, stating that if Markle had promoted her collection in the UK, it would have violated the terms of the Megxit deal. Arbiter criticized the move, calling it “tacky” and a “mixture of a lack of imagination and desperation.”
Despite the backlash, Markle, who recently expressed her desire to be known as Meghan Sussex, teased that there is more to come from her clothing line. It seems that Markle is strategically leveraging her social media presence and royal connections to promote her brand and expand her business ventures.
It will be interesting to see how Markle continues to navigate the intersection of her personal brand, royal ties, and entrepreneurial pursuits in the future.
