Meghan Markle has an intriguing habit of going barefoot, which she believes contributes to her overall wellbeing.
In a recent recorded chat with her friend Courtney Adamo, Markle revealed insights into her home life in Montecito during the launch of Adamo’s book The Family Home: Inspiring Ideas for a Home Filled with Joy at Godmothers bookstore on October 23. She expressed her delight in greeting visitors while barefoot and dressed in an apron.
“It demystifies,” she explained, adding, “When people arrive, they think, ‘Oh, she’s just like me.’ And where do they gravitate? Your kitchen. They step in, and suddenly everyone feels a little more at ease.” She believes this approach fosters a serene and balanced atmosphere, enhancing the wellbeing within the family home she shares with Prince Harry and their children, Archie and Lilibet.
The Duchess of Sussex also highlighted her typical casual style and warm approach to entertaining guests in her 2022 Netflix series, Harry & Meghan. She recounted an evening when Will and Kate visited for dinner, recalling, “I was in ripped jeans and barefoot. I am a hugger; that’s something I’ve always done. But I hadn’t realized that might be surprising to many Brits.”
Images from Meghan Markle’s Instagram as well as scenes from her Netflix show With Love, Meghan showcase her preference for being barefoot. One lovely photo captures her enjoying time in the garden with daughter Lilibet, both of them without shoes, reflecting her penchant for barefoot cooking and gardening.
Markle’s choice to forgo shoes is not merely a lifestyle choice but also yields significant health advantages. The practice of “Grounding” is recognized for its capacity to help manage anxiety by engaging the senses—such as feeling grass underfoot or inhaling the fresh air—to redirect stress and promote mindfulness. This technique can aid in alleviating anxiety, stress, depression, and PTSD.
